Education Major & In-Service Teacher Scholarships Application
The Education Major Scholarship is intended for students who have declared an education major. The undergraduate scholarship funds pre-service teachers at the level of $2,500 for one student teaching semester. The graduate scholarship supports in-service teachers with $5,000 up to two semesters.
The funding period is to start during the student teaching semester for undergraduates. For in-service teachers who are pursuing a graduate degree through an accredited university in the state of New Mexico, we support up to two semesters.
The scholarship aims at supporting teachers in designing and developing a NASA science or math resource unit plan, which will be taught during the student teaching semester if they are pre-service teachers or in their own classrooms if they are in-service teachers.
Student teaching can be performed at the elementary or secondary levels. The resource unit plan must relate to NASA’s unique mission of research and discovery as a framework for inspiration and student learning. The resource unit plan must also relate to Common Core State Standards (or NM Performance and Benchmarks Standards) applicable to the grade level the student teacher has been placed. For specific requirements, please see application. In-service teachers must design two unit plans. As it is true with all NMSGC programs, the participation of minorities, women, and persons with disabilities is strongly encouraged. U.S. citizenship is required.
The application period will be open from January 18 to April 5, 2021. Funding will be for Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters.
