Globe Observer: GLIDOV3Z

New Mexico State University (NMSU) has partnered with NASA to develop Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to label photographs. As a NASA Partner, the Hack the Land Cover team will use the land cover images from Globe.gov and your own to design a ML tool to label the images according to cover type.
You can participate by using the GLOBEObserver app, which you can download at GLOBE.gov. By adding land cover observations to our GLOBE team (GLIDOV3Z), you can compete to win cash prizes in two separate events: Feb. 14, and Mar. 14, 2022. Each event will start the day before and last 48 hours.
Each observation will take about 15 minutes. Upload the minimum number of observations to be eligible (post three landcover types and three replicates for nine sites). After eligible, weekly observation post will keep you in the mix to compete for cash prizes. More observations improve the odds of winning.
On Feb. 13-14 and Mar. 13-14, you will be the human-in-the-loop. The hack is your opportunity to break the ML code. Beat the machine learning tool at identifying land cover from photographs. Test the app by labeling land cover photographs. You will have an option to label and upload your own photographs as well. Your efforts will improve the app, and, as NASA Partners, we will appreciate that.
Now, NASA needs your eyes on the ground. Join the Globe Observer team with this code GLIDOV3Z.
